Newsletter 7 - May 2017
Dear family, friends, and supporters.
Everybody is so happy with the new school especially the children who are the happiest now that the school is finished, they will not have to carry on having their lessons under large blue tarpaulin sheets anymore.
As the school project was such a big success for us, it has been agreed that there is an urgent need for a new medical centre within the village, as the existing room they use as a clinic was also very badly damaged when the earthquake struck in 2015, the walls have several cracks and the roof leaks, there is no running water or drainage to the building.
The footpath to this very small and damaged clinic is only about 12" wide and very steep and dangerous, so it will need a new footpath to the new clinics as well.
The existing building will need to be extended and renovated with new toilets and new wash hand basins added, new beds and medical equipment is also needed.
We have set aside €5000 euros for this project which will commence on the 1 st of June 2017 and should be completed by September 2017, the new clinic will be attended by approximately 300 people from Dumkhim village and also local people from other villages.
We have also set aside €5000 euros to start the new Dumkhim welfare society which now has its own bank account, it has 5 committee members with Jenny and I as trustees, this will mean that the villagers will need to become members to use this service and contribute on a monthly basis to be able to borrow money for health treatment and home repairs etc.
The new road is getting closer to the village now with about 1 kilometer to go.
This is a very slow process as the new road is being built on the face of a mountain, and the rock face has to be chiseled out by a large excavator.
That's all for now, but Jenny and I will keep you informed of the progress,
Kindest regards
Bob and Jenny
